Retirement Calculator
Find out how much you need at retirement and what monthly SIP gets you there, adjusted for inflation.
Retirement Planning Calculator
*Assumes pre-retirement return rate of 12% p.a. and post-retirement return rate of 8% p.a., with retirement life expectancy of 85 years.
How this retirement calculator works
- It inflates your current monthly expenses to the year you retire.
- It calculates the corpus needed to pay that inflation-adjusted amount every month until age 85, assuming the corpus earns 8% a year after retirement.
- It works out the monthly SIP needed to build that corpus, assuming 12% a year before retirement.
Worked example
A 30-year-old spending ₹50,000 a month today, planning to retire at 60 with 6% inflation, would need about ₹2,87,175 a month at retirement. That means a corpus of roughly ₹6.88 crore, or a SIP of about ₹19,482 a month starting today.
Keep in mind
The result depends heavily on the inflation and return assumptions. Your EPF, PPF, NPS or other savings reduce the SIP you need, so the calculator gives an upper estimate if you have them.
Frequently Asked Questions
How much money do I need to retire in India?
It depends on your expenses, your retirement age and inflation. The calculator estimates the corpus needed to cover inflation-adjusted expenses until age 85.
Why does the corpus look so large?
Inflation compounds over decades. At 6% inflation, expenses roughly double every 12 years, so ₹50,000 a month today becomes nearly ₹2.9 lakh a month in 30 years.
What if I start my retirement SIP later?
The monthly SIP rises sharply with every year you delay, because there is less time for compounding. Move the current-age slider to see the effect.
